an explanation, of sorts, follows (of course your intrepretation may be more accurate) ::
Beauty subdued by the snag, which when admired is too beauty. Two symbols here, the fish, and the fowl (in front), creatures contrasting.
Among other interpretations the art offers a cognitive reflection of the nature of opposites, of paradise with pain.
Upon further inspection one can see the fish figure become the shape of a person's head looking introspectively upwards as if gazing upon the afternoon sun in the top left corner.

Temptation's Moment explained [one of perhaps many versions of explanation]:
An archetypal depiction of the dramatic point of decision. The serpent (left lower quadrant), God (upper right). The fated apple hangs in lure. The man image at the center.
The forces, good and evil, the contrasts, free will, Divine awareness. The full spectrum.
Notice, too, (bottom center) the small depiction of the "painter within the painting." The scene being documented suddenly takes on huge proportions, the tiny painter in front of the giant canvas, suggesting a sense of the monumentality of the painter's task.
